What is a Derma Roller?

It is a beauty tool, a roller filled with tiny needles measured in millimeters, designed for use on the face, body, and scalp. It is an approved medical device. The Derma Roller works by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. Collagen is essential as it is the main component or basic protein of skin tissues. It renews cells that appear stretched due to obesity or pregnancy. The Derma Roller is easily understood and affordable, offering treatments for skin radiance and various skin conditions.

It is a device consisting of a handle connected to a roller with tiny needles of different sizes. You choose the size that suits the area of your body you are treating, based on previous Derma Roller use, your skin type, and its condition. It stimulates collagen production to restore youthfulness.

How does the Derma Roller work:

The Derma Roller is passed over the skin in specific multiple directions and a particular manner, creating tiny punctures in the skin. These punctures enhance collagen and elastin production. It's worth noting that a facial Derma Roller typically has around 540 needles. People's tolerance for the pricking varies, and it's recommended to apply a numbing cream (optional) about half an hour beforehand to reduce pain. Initial sessions should use smaller needle sizes, such as 0.25 or 0.5 mm. Derma Roller treatment is very safe and has no harmful effects on the skin, but some redness, and sometimes swelling, may occur after sessions, which quickly subsides.

How do I choose the right size for me?

The Derma Roller tool comes in several sizes (0.25 – 0.5 – 1 – 1.5 mm)

If it's your first time, use the 0.5mm size; you'll find it suitable, especially if you're doing it yourself without going to a beauty salon, to avoid skin irritation or any side effects. Meanwhile, the 1mm size is the most common because it suits all skin types.

For the body, cellulite, and deep scars, a 1.5mm size can be used.

Uses and Benefits:

1- Facial Radiance: Used to achieve glowing skin.

2- Stretch Marks: Used in treating some stretch marks.

3- Hair: Used to stimulate hair growth on the scalp.

4- Red and White Lines: Used to reduce the severity of lines on the body.

5- Scars: Plays a role in treating some scars, especially superficial ones.

6- Pores: Plays a role in reducing enlarged pores.

Important before use:

1- Test the tool on a small area of skin to ensure there is no sensitivity or inflammation.

2- Only one person should use it.

3- After ensuring there is no inflammation, wash your hands thoroughly.

4- Wash your face and skin with water and gently dry with a towel for ten minutes.

5- Use a skin sanitizer (available in pharmacies).

6- Sterilize the Derma Roller tool with diluted Dettol.

Note: Some people may use a numbing cream, depending on the individual case.

How to use the Derma Roller for skin and face:

1- Pass the tool over the areas to be treated back and forth in a "+" and an "x" shape.

2- Avoid using it under the eyes.

3- Pass it as before, 10 times alternately.

4- It can also be used on the chin area.

Note: You are the one who can determine the degree of gentleness, as you will feel the needles pricking the skin, and it must be kept light.

Derma Roller for hair loss:

It stimulates hair growth, using the same method mentioned earlier by gently passing the device over the scalp.

Derma Roller for wrinkles and skin aging:

Since the Derma Roller is used for facial radiance, it can revitalize the skin and make it appear younger.

Derma Roller for red and white lines:

The Derma Roller reduces the visibility of lines by stimulating skin cells, acting as a natural massage for the skin.

Note: Creams containing vitamin A or C, or therapeutic creams for lines, can be used to increase effectiveness.

Derma Roller for acne scars:

The device is effective for superficial scars and also helps with facial radiance.

Derma Roller for pores:

The Derma Roller reduces enlarged pores by stimulating skin cells, acting as a natural massage for the skin.

Derma Roller for cellulite: 

It can also be used for cellulite as a good massage for the skin.

Derma Roller for spots and pigmentation:

The results are not significant, as it works more on skin radiance and may help within a month with natural skin regeneration.

Contraindications during Derma Roller use:

1- Do not use on mouth, eyes, and nose areas.

2- Do not use laser or lightening cream at the same time.

3- Do not use if there are skin breakouts or inflammatory skin conditions.

Instructions after using the Derma Roller:

1- Sterilize the device by rinsing with hot water, alcohol, or diluted Dettol.

2- Apply a moisturizing cream to the skin. For best results, it is recommended to apply Vitamin C serum, original Argan oil, or Shea butter in case of inflammation or redness.

3- Sunscreen cream when going out.

How often to use the Derma Roller

1- First time: It is preferable to use it every 15 days (two weeks).

2- If previously used: every week or ten days.

3- Can be used more than once a week (2-3 times) for 0.5 mm sizes with extreme caution.

4- For sizes larger than 1 mm, it should be used every two weeks.

When will I see results from using the Derma Roller device?

Results appear depending on the skin problem, typically within two to three months.
